d3o, the Impact Protection company, was established in 2001 by Richard Palmer, a successful design consultant and a graduate of both the Royal College of Art and Imperial College. d3o was a result of the combination of enhanced chemistry, engineering and design, which became the unique patented impact protection system that is d3o.
d3o products were born out of the Olympic athletes’ requirements for complete flexibility and control, with no compromise on protection. Spyder were the first to use the patented material in their kit for the US and Canadian ski teams in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Today d3o supplies motorcycle, defence, electronics, sports and footwear markets.
Pod Exhibition Systems had previously supplied d3o a portable modular stand which they self-managed at smaller events. d3o decided they required a turn-key solution for their future event projects. Pod suggested that our new Esetta service would suit their needs as it includes design, manufacture, installation, deconstruction, shipping and storage. We also manage the services required for each event.
Pod uses a very defined Design Brief Consideration document, and this enabled us to prepare 3 visuals to suit the clients brief. This included the ability to scale the stand to suit a variety of venues throughout the year.
d3o chose the design closest to their original concept and instructed us to prepare finished designs for 2 different events – Milipol in Paris and EICMA in Milan. The quotations which were for a completely managed service met the predetermined budget and an order was placed.
The final designs in Esetta included a section of the stand that was hired from POD to adjust the shape and size of the stand between the two events. Esetta uses a totally modular branded system and the graphic panels are made from a tensioned fabric. This means the complete stand is sturdy, yet light, ideal for shipping to overseas events.
The visually powerful graphic panels were illuminated from behind to create giant lightboxes. The meeting area provided privacy without feeling claustrophobic. The whole stand was erected by 2 men over a weekend with the handover to the client met without delay.
The stand was well received and many visitors commented on the dramatic impact a relatively small stand made alongside bigger competitors. Other stand contractors were amazed how quickly the stand was erected by such a small team, and how compactly it all shipped! The whole 11x4 metre stand fitted into a third of a transit van – the rest was furniture and accessories. The stand only weighed 170kg.
Marketing Director Mostyn Thomas reports:
“We've had a good few days with the new stand out at Milipol this week and overall, the stand was great. All in all good – thank you to your team”
Lisa Fucassi, d3o Marketing Executive enthused
“I’ve seen some images of the EICMA stand and it looks great!"
The original stand, purchased with the aim of reconfiguring to suit various market types and venues, has since undergone a variety of transformations as can be seen from the photographs and is still in use throughout Europe after 2 years life
